Uplift News

We've just arrived in Sydney after an exciting and productive month in California, teaching our method to health professionals at California State University at Northridge, Los Angeles, and presenting a mini Uplift Program for the public and health professionals at the cutting-edge California Institute for Integral Studies in San Francisco.

California has always been a fertile ground for disseminating new ideas and, as always, we feel really at home there, and look forward to our return. We made new alliances (with the world-renowned Esalen Istitute) and cemented old ones, such as with the San Francisco-based Association for Humanistic Psychology and Health Medicine Forum.

We were recharged as we walked the hills around LA, marveling at the exuberant wildflowers taller than our heads and the pungent tar pits that came off the shale hills. We thrilled at the constantly changing vistas of the World Heritage drive from LA to SF and greeted the resident seals in Monterey's harbor and the myriad of waterfowl (often trailing a line of newly-hatched offspring) that take up residency at South San Francisco's harbor side by our hotel.

It's odd to go instantly from the California spring, that season of expectancy, with its new foliage, enticing scents and unseasonal chill, to Australia's fall, with its surprise pockets of summer heat, sense of harvest and work fulfillment, and at the same time preparation for the integration and deepening that even Sydney's mild winter, invites. As we finish the manuscript of our latest book, "Creating Optimism in Your Young Child," and plan for the next, there is a profound sense of deepening and expectancy.

We thank you all for being with us on our ongoing journey.
