Depression Recovery Tips

We hear from people all the time who are overcoming the pain of depression and anxiety by putting our depression recovery techniques into practice. They often have courageous and uplifting stories and very helpful advice.

"After the Uplift Program I realised I had to be more honest with friends about how vulnerable and ill I was feeling," says Mel from Sydney. "To heal my depression, I had to let them know very clearly what I really needed from them."

Mel set aside time with four good friends to talk about her depression, give them an idea about the Uplift process and begin a Needs-Based Dialogue.

"I explained that I felt I had a great relationship with each friend and I did not think we had a problem. However, my aim was to develop the huge value in us exploring each others' needs in our relationship and noting them down for each other to fulfil. Each friend stated that they thought this made complete sense."

In fact Mel was surprised and gratified to find that her friends were happy to meet her needs. "This simple process has led me to feel understood, loved, respected and needed in a much greater way than ever before."
